Data Sources shows which market data providers, instruments, and resolutions are available inside TheoryCraft.
Last updated: June 26, 2026
Use this page before starting a research workflow so you know whether the market, symbol, and timeframe you need are available.
What to Check
| Field | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Provider | The source that offers the market data. |
| Status | Whether the provider is currently available. |
| Instruments | The markets and symbols available from that provider. |
| Resolutions | The timeframes you can request for research. |
| Historical or live coverage | Whether the provider supports past data, current data, or both. |
Data source coverage is separate from AI Provider Accounts. Data sources are for market data. AI provider accounts are for the assistant.
Search Coverage
- Open Data Sources.
- Search for a provider, instrument name, symbol, currency, or asset class.
- Open the provider details when you need more context.
- Confirm the resolution you need before writing or asking for notebook work.
If a search is empty, try a broader symbol, the provider name, or the asset class. Some providers use specific naming conventions.
Use Data Sources With Explorations
Before creating a long notebook workflow:
- Confirm the provider is available.
- Check that the instrument exists.
- Check the resolution you need.
- Note any naming convention you want to reuse in the notebook.
- Keep assumptions in the notebook so future readers know what was tested.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | What to try |
|---|---|
| Instrument does not appear | Search by provider, base currency, quote currency, or asset class. |
| Provider appears unavailable | Try again later or use another provider if one covers the same market. |
| Resolution is missing | Choose a supported timeframe or adjust the research question. |
| Notebook request returns no data | Re-check the provider, instrument naming, and date range on the Data Sources page. |
FAQ
Are data sources the same as AI providers?
No. Data sources provide market data for research. AI providers supply models for the assistant.
Should I check coverage before asking the assistant for a backtest?
Yes. It helps you ask for a test that matches available instruments and resolutions.
